The
South Carolina African – American
Male Empowerment Conference
“Breaking The Silence” to Implement Strategies
for Success & Inclusion
"Breaking
The Silence” is intended to provide an atmosphere
that will foster intellectual exchange by addressing the educational,
emotional, life skills and aspirations of African-American males
young and old.
The objective
is to establish communication and networking among the youth
African-American males and older African- American males that
will foster an environment that is catered to establishing goals
and initiatives that will provide a solution to the issues that
these African American men face.
Much has
been written and spoken in recent years regarding the “crisis”
of the African-American man. He has been characterized as an
“endangered species” a victim of geno-catastrophic
descriptions. The rhetoric of this condition is second only
to the awesome statistics and painful facts which illustrate
the most unfortunate circumstances of black men in America.
It is vital that we assess the situation of the African-American
man within an historical and spiritually sound perspective”.
“In
fact, the crisis of the African male in America began with the
landing of the first slave ship in the vicinity of four hundred
years ago. This crisis has varying levels of intensity throughout
our recent history in North America interacting with the conquerors
from Europe”.
