DAMARIO SOLOMON SIMMONS
Damario Solomon-Simmons
is an attorney, professor, lobbyist, columnist, and a dynamic
speaker. A proud native of North Tulsa, Oklahoma, after graduating
from Booker T. Washington High School Bro. Solomon-Simmons accepted
a football scholarship to Northeastern Oklahoma State University.
Not serious about education or life, Damario dropped out school
to “find himself” and moved to Dallas, TX. While working
in Dallas and gaining invaluable life experience, Damario became
conscious of and accepted his responsibilities as a Black Man
in this world. It was then that Damario realized that he needed
an education if he really wanted to fulfill his obligations and
make a positive difference for his community.
Damario moved back
to Tulsa and enrolled in Tulsa Community College. In 1997, Damario
obtained his Associates Degree in History from Tulsa Community
College. Later that year, Bro. Solomon-Simmons enrolled at the
University of Oklahoma and earned his Bachelor Degree in African
& African American Studies. While at OU, Damario walked on
to the Sooner’s football team as a linebacker. Within a
year Damario earned a full scholarship and eventually won two
letters while playing at OU. After completing his Bachelor’s
Degree, Damario worked in Student Affairs as the Coordinator of
the University of Oklahoma’s biggest scholarship program
and completed a Masters degree in Adult & Higher Education
from the University of Oklahoma in 2001. In 2001 Bro. Solomon-Simmons
accepted a full academic scholarship to the University Of Oklahoma
College Of Law. Graduating in 2004 from law school, Damario received
the Joel Jankowski Award which honors the most Outstanding OU
law student.
Damario has received over 35 awards and honors including: the
2000-01 University of Oklahoma African-American Graduate Student
of the Year, 2000-01 NCAA Post- Graduate Scholarship Recipient,
and the 1998 University of Oklahoma’s Prentice Gautt award
for most outstanding African-American Athlete. Passionate about
travel and international affairs Damario has worked at the United
States State Department in Washington D.C., at the Office of the
Legal Advisor for Private International Law, studied Law at Oxford,
University in Oxford, England, studied Afrikan culture in Gambia
and Senegal West Afrika, worked as a program consultant at one
of South Afrika’s premier event planning and production
companies, J.A.K.E. Enterprises, in Johannesburg, South Afrika.
Mr. Solomon is also an active member of many organizations including
the Reparations Coordinating Committee (RCC), the Black Freedman
of the Five Tribes Association, the Brothers of The Academy (BOTA),
Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and his church Sanctuary Evangelic
Church.
Damario is married
to the lovely Tulsa Fox23’s News Reporter Mia Fleming. Bro.
Solomon-Simmons is a full-time faculty of member of the University
of Oklahoma’s African & African-American Studies Program,
and managing partner of Damario Solomon Simmons & Associates.
