| Over
the last five years BOTA members have excelled in their chosen
professions and in their respective insitutions. Below are just
a few of many ouststanding accomplishments in teaching, research
and service:
Dr.
Stanley Elliot received the Outstanding Professor Award at North
Carolina State University for the 2003-2004 school year.
Dr. Jerlando
Jackson, University of Wisconsin at Madison, received the Outstanding
Alumni Award from one of his alma maters, Iowa State University;
Institute on Race and Ethnicity Minority Faculty Research Award,
University of Wisconsin System (2002); and Wisconsin Alumni Research
Foundation/Graduate School Research Award, University of Wisconsin-Madison
(2003).
Dr. Charles
Osiris, University of California at Santa Barbara, received an
outstanding teaching award from the Teacher Education Program
three consecutive years, 2001, 2002, & 2003. He also received
the university teaching award in 2002 and 2003.
Dr. Samuel
Hodge, The Ohio State University, received the College of Education’s
Distinguished Diversity Enhancement Award. This college sponsored
award serves to recognize faculty, staff, and students for their
contributions to diversity within the college.
Dr. Chance
W. Lewis, Colorado State University, was awarded the 2003-2004
Tenure-Track Faculty Teaching Excellence Award for the College
of Applied Human Sciences.
Dr. Lee Jones,
University of Wisconsin at Whitewater, received a $10,000 grant
from Florida State University to direct and produce a National
Documentary: Brothers of the Academy. Over 20 Brothers participated
in the documentary. The documentary is being used in over 50 classes
and national conferences across the country.
Drs. Juan
E. Gilbert, Auburn University, Lamont A. Flowers, University of
Florida, James L. Moore III, The Ohio State University, and Bevlee
A. Watford, Virginia Polytechnic Institute, have received the
National Science Foundation grant entitled “Scholars of
the Future: An Implementation Model for Increasing Diversity in
Information Technology” in the amount of $754,983 for a
four-year period, which began August 2004.
Dr. James
L. Moore III, The Ohio State University, received the OSU's College
of Education Distinguished Scholar Award.
Dr. Floyd
Beachum, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, received a $5,000
grant from LASER
Mini-Grant 2004-2005 for the research project entitled: African
American Student Success Factors.
Dr. Ivan
Watts, Auburn University, received the Emily & Geral Leischuck
Outstanding
Undergraduate Teaching Award in the College of Education at Auburn
University.
Dr. Lee Rush,
North Dakota State University, received a Distinguished Teaching
Award in 2003.
Dr. Lamont
A. Flowers, University of Florida, received the 2004 AERA award
for his scholarship and
service to one of the prestigious AERA journals.
Dr. Leon
Caldwell, University of Nebraska at Lincoln, received the 2003
Distinguished Teacher Award and won the Community Builders Award.
Dr. Damario
Solomon, University of Okalahoma, passed the Oklahoma Bar exam
and was sworn in Fall 2004.
J.W. Wiley,
SUNY Plattsburgh, received the Distinguished Faculty Award in
